How We Rate AI Tools

Every tool in the catalog gets the same review template and a score out of 5, rounded to two decimals so that no two tools tie. We look at five things:

  • Core output quality: how well the tool does the job it is sold for.
  • Features and limits: what each plan includes and where usage caps apply.
  • Pricing and value: free tier, starting price, billing terms and what extra usage costs.
  • Ease of use: setup, interface, supported platforms and integrations.
  • Trust and policies: commercial-use terms, data handling and how open the vendor is about limits.

Prices come from the vendor’s official pricing page and are dated. When a vendor changes plans, renames a product or shuts it down, we update or remove the card.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is AI Compared?

AI Compared is an editorial catalog of AI tools. We review each tool with the same template: what it does, key features, pros and cons, pricing and a score out of 5.

How are the ratings calculated?

Our editors score each tool on output quality, features and limits, pricing and value, ease of use, and trust and policies. The scores are editorial, not user reviews. The full method is on our How We Rate page.

How current are the prices?

Prices were checked on official vendor sites in November 2026. AI pricing changes often, so confirm the price on the vendor’s pricing page before you subscribe.

Do vendors pay to be listed or to get a higher score?

No. Listings and scores are not for sale. Some links may become affiliate links in the future, which means we may earn a commission if you buy. That does not change a score or a ranking.

Which tools have a free plan?

37 of the 48 tools offer a free plan. Each card shows whether a free plan is available. A trial that ends after a fixed period does not count as a free plan.

Can I suggest a tool or report an error?

Yes. Use the contact form to suggest a tool or report an outdated price or broken link. We check every report.
