Owned by Canva but run as an independent platform, Leonardo.Ai is a browser-based studio for generating and editing images and video. It keeps its own plans and pricing separate from Canva, and its Phoenix architecture also underpins the model behind Canva’s Dream Lab.
Leonardo trains its own models and hosts outside ones. Phoenix 1.0 is built for prompt adherence and suits stylized assets such as flat illustrations and stickers, Lucid Origin is positioned as an all-round aesthetic model, and Lucid Realism targets photorealism with an analog texture. Several FLUX models are available as well. Flow State generates dozens of visual directions quickly when a user does not yet know what they want, while editing tools cover canvas work, upscaling and animation into video. Users can train personal models on their own images, and higher plans add unlimited relaxed generations on eligible models.
Game developers, indie creators, e-commerce sellers and social media teams use Leonardo to produce consistent asset sets without a design team, and the free plan’s 150 daily tokens make it easy to test. The token system takes time to learn: different models and settings cost different amounts, Flow State always consumes tokens and is excluded from relaxed generation, and the Essential plan has no relaxed mode at all. Heavier users usually move up to Premium for unlimited slower generations.
