Adobe’s generative AI studio for images, video and audio, combining commercially safe Firefly models with partner models and Creative Cloud links.

Pros
  • Firefly models trained on licensed and public domain content
  • Direct hand-off to Photoshop, Premiere Pro and Adobe Express
  • More than 25 partner models available in one app
  • Unlimited standard image features such as Generative Fill on paid plans
Cons
  • Commercial-safety assurances do not extend to partner models
  • Video, audio and premium features consume credits quickly
  • Free daily generations are limited

Adobe’s generative AI family, Firefly, covers both a standalone web and mobile app and the AI features built into Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere Pro, Lightroom and Adobe Express. Adobe trains its own Firefly models on licensed Adobe Stock content and public domain material and states that it does not train on users’ personal or generated content.

The current flagship image model, Firefly Image Model 5, generates native 4MP images and handles photorealistic lighting and texture. Alongside Adobe’s models, the app offers more than 25 partner models, including Google’s Nano Banana, OpenAI’s image generation, FLUX from Black Forest Labs, Runway and Kling for video, and ElevenLabs for audio. The Image Editor provides Generative Fill, Remove, Expand and Upscale, Firefly Boards serves as a collaborative moodboarding space, and the Firefly Video Model and a soundtrack generator extend work into motion and sound. Paid plans include unlimited standard image features and Boards, while premium actions such as text-to-video draw on monthly generative credits.

Designers and agencies already working in Creative Cloud benefit most, since generated assets move straight into Photoshop or Premiere for finishing, and the licensed training data matters to brands worried about rights. The commercial-safety claim, however, applies to Adobe’s own models; outputs from partner models fall under each provider’s terms. Credit costs for video and audio also add up quickly on the $9.99 Standard plan.
