The former Windsurf AI editor, renamed Devin Desktop by Cognition in June 2026: an agent command center with Tab completions and local or cloud agents.

Pros
  • Unlimited Tab completions and inline edits even on the Free plan
  • Moves sessions between local and cloud agents with shared context
  • Agent Client Protocol lets you manage third-party agents in the same app
  • Smooth migration: Windsurf settings, extensions and rules carry over
Cons
  • Rebrand to Devin Desktop makes older Windsurf docs and tutorials outdated
  • JetBrains plugin is in maintenance mode
  • Pricing page focuses on quotas rather than published request counts

Windsurf no longer ships under its original name. Cognition, the company behind the Devin coding agent, renamed the Windsurf editor Devin Desktop on June 2, 2026, as part of unifying its products under the Devin brand. The change arrived as an over-the-air update that kept the same editor, extensions and settings, and windsurf.com now redirects to Devin’s site.

The renamed app is built as an agent command center: Spaces plus board and list views track sessions from Working to PR ready to Merged. Devin Local runs on your machine, sessions can move to Devin Cloud with shared context, and subagents split long jobs into separate pull requests. Fast Context locates relevant files quickly, Devin Review handles diffs, and Fusion pairs a frontier model with Cognition’s lower-cost SWE-2 model for execution. Tab completions and unlimited inline edits carry over from the classic Windsurf experience. Third-party agents connect over the Agent Client Protocol, and MCP integrations cover Slack, Linear, Notion, Sentry, Figma, Vercel, Stripe and others.

Existing Windsurf users get continuity, since plans, settings and .windsurf rules keep working, and newcomers get one place to manage local and cloud agents. The Pro plan adds frontier models from OpenAI, Anthropic, Google and SpaceXAI along with Devin Cloud agents. Fit note: the JetBrains plugin is in maintenance mode, and documentation, commands and admin policies now reference Devin rather than Windsurf, which can confuse teams following older guides.
