OpenAI’s flagship consumer assistant, ChatGPT, is the product that brought large language models into mainstream use. It runs in the browser, in desktop apps and on mobile, and the same account covers casual chat, document work and programming help. OpenAI sells it in four individual tiers: Free, Go, Plus and Pro, with Pro split into several usage levels.

Current plans revolve around the GPT-6 generation of models. GPT-6 Luna is available on every individual tier, while Plus and Pro add GPT-6.1 Sol and GPT-6.1 Terra for heavier work. Codex, OpenAI’s coding agent, is bundled with all individual plans and on Plus runs on the web, in the CLI, in an IDE extension and on iOS, with integrations such as automatic code review and Slack. Paid plans also include image generation, which the Free plan does not, along with voice conversations and the option to buy extra credits when limits run out.

ChatGPT suits people who want one subscription that handles drafting emails, analyzing uploaded files, brainstorming and writing code without switching tools. Developers get the most out of Plus because Codex usage scales with the plan. The main caveat is that limits are measured per model in rolling five-hour windows, so heavy users of the strongest models can hit caps on Plus and may need a Pro tier, which starts at $100 per month. OpenAI also does not offer annual billing for Go, Plus or Pro, so there is no discount for paying a year in advance.
